• What happens during a typical visit?

You will be with your child at all times. For our infants studies, your baby will watch a computer display. For our children students, your child will play with some toys and answer some simple questions.

  • Where are you located?

We are located in the Department of Psychology and Human Development at Vanderbilt University. If you agree to participate in one of our studies, you will be sent directions to the lab, and one of our lab assistants will contact you the day before your appointment.

  • How long does a typical visit last?

A typical visit to the lab usually lasts about 30 minutes.

  • How many studies must I show up for?

Each study requires one session, but we encourage our participants to participate in as many studies as they would like.

  • When can I participate?

We schedule studies starting at 9 AM and going until 6 PM, Monday to Sunday.

  • Will my data be kept confidential?

Absolutely! Following your visit, your child’s name will be replaced with a participant number. During sessions that are videotaped, the recordings will be kept in a locked room to which only trained experimenters have access. In addition, no reference will be made to individuals in oral or written reports that could link individuals to the study.

  • Can I bring along my other child or children to the study?

Absolutely! Another trained experimenter will gladly look after them during your visit. Next to the room where we hold our studies, we have a room filled with toys where your other children can play with the trained experimenter. If you have other children you would like to bring, please let us know in advance when you make an appointment.
